The Chicago Antique Engagement Ring. Centering on an unusual, 4.30 Ct natural unheated sapphire of a most captivating violet blue, this Princess Diana style antique sapphire engagement ring is an Edwardian heirloom over 100 years old. The floral design cocktail ring adorned with 1 carat of old mine cut diamond petals framed in detailed milgrain, supported by a foliate pierced under gallery and a diamond accented band. The Circa 1900 treasure having recently undergone a complete restoration, it is in very good condition ready to embark on a new journey.
Royalty often wore sapphires for dual purposes. Not only did the stone reputedly attract wealth, it also purportedly protected the wearer from envy and infidelity. Traditionally, people attributed to this gem the power to bring harmony between lovers as well as peace between adversaries. In addition, sapphires were said to put one at ease in social engagements and banish fraud.
