Ronald Stevens Gemstone Carvings

Growing up in the heady, post war Southern California art, love and surf culture allowed Ronald to experiment with unique avenues which shaped his life and career. A career as a Laguna Beach jeweler, painter, sculptor and founding member of the 50 year Sawdust Art Festival led the way to his becoming a renowned carver of gemstone specimens. He favors indigenous California Big Sur Jade, fossil whalebone, agate and jasper collected over many years on beach hikes. The intriguing sea & land creatures and subjects fashioned out of these materials are as varied and whimsical as the artist's colorful life. These specimens have been fashioned into intricately carved sculptures, and are highly sought after by fine art collectors.
